Where: Sixth Street
Why: The Pecan Street Festival is a bi-yearly food, music, beer, arts, and crafts festival set up all along Sixth Street. Some of the faire you can expect to find, along with the obligatory pecans, is roasted alligator, and craft beer! If the cuisine isn’t your thing, then the hand crafted jewelry, clothing, and art may be. This is definitely something worth checking out.

Downtown Development Digest: Preleases Bring Bright Outlook to Downtown Austin's Future

With the all the new buildings slated for downtown Austin, one might think that law of supply and demand would hold true. According to CBRE and The Wall Street Journal, that isn’t the case.

Preleasing on available developments shows that the occupancy rate may actually rise in downtown Austin. Over the next 15 months, the five projects slated to open are preleased at over 90%. Cousins Properties Inc. (builders of Austin’s Frost Bank Plaza) announced Colorado Tower is 95% leased, and with time to spare before it is scheduled opening in early December.

Hotel Van Zandt developer BIG RED DOG has released new information about the project, which has been underway since 2013. "Recently, the project’s general contractor, Tribble & Stephens, drilled and poured almost 60 piers into the soil for the foundation of the 16 story hotel, erected the project’s tower crane (which you can see from IH 35), and started pouring the initial slabs and columns for the bottom garage level." All of this is right on schedule for the Q1 2015 finish that the hotel is slated for. 

Named after the Austin musician, Townes Van Zandt, singer of "Pancho and Lefty" the Hotel Van Zandt will be located on Rainey Street. This hotel is expected to have 16 floors of luxury hotel

The Austin skyline will soon be welcoming a very new, and very tall building! Located just east of the Seaholm Power Plant at 3rd and West, the mixed-use tower is planned for a 1.7-acre site, which previously housed the Austin Energy Control Center. Projected to reach an incredible 50 stories (and possibly higher), the tower will claim the title of the second tallest building in the city. The new tower is expected to accommodate approximately 400 condominiums, 120,000 square feet of office space, and 15,000 square feet of retail space.
