A significant part of the overall Seaholm District Master Plan is the design of the Seaholm Substation Art Wall. This wall is an artistic approach to the downtown infrastructure. The City of Austin is excited to incorporate the presence of art and culture within the district, setting a standard in public art on a national level.

While there is an artistic approach, the structure is also being built for safety. According to the city of Austin, it “will keep the public safe, keep the substation secure, and be a sculptural response to the practical need for a wall.” The artist, Nader Tehrani, and his design team are carrying out this need to make the district safer and more aesthetically

Transwestern Development Co. recently announced their plan to develop a mixed-use project on a 4.2-acre site at the intersection of E. 6th St. and Comal. Formerly the Arnold Oil Co. site, the land will now be occupied by two buildings cumulatively totaling 446,000 SF.

Expected to be completed by January 2016, the first building will be composed of 94,500 SF of Class A office space. Houston-based Kirksey Architecture exclusively designed the office building.

With it’s superb location on Congress Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street, just 15 miles from the airport, and two blocks from the convention center, in addition to an immense amount of meeting space (more than 112,000 square feet + 42 individual breakout rooms), the digs are destined to be an ideal hub for local and business travelers.

Only one year ago, Watertown, Massachusetts-based Athenahealth announced its intent to expand its research and development operations in Austin, Texas. The company projected a total capital investment of $13 million it its new Research & Development (R&D) Center, a 110,000 SF facility in the former Seaholm Power Plant. With this new R&D facility, Athenahealth's existing 70 Austin-based employees are forecasted to grow to 600 in the next ten years, with a significant acquisition of local talent to fill high-paying software developer roles (with an average wage of $132,085).
