The office building One Eleven Congress, located at Second Street and Congress Avenue, will soon be transforming its plaza and lobby into a new urban park, civic space and food marketplace. The goal of the project is for the new plaza to be a destination spot for dining, coffee, happy hour options, live music and events.

Here’s all the facts we know:

-The project will be funded by Parkway Properties Inc. (owner of One Congress Plaza)

-Designers are Michael Hsu Office of Architecture and the Daniel Woodroffe Group

            - Michael Huse’s firm will renovate the indoor lobby of the building while the Daniel Woodroffe Group transforms the outdoor plaza.

Downtown Development Digest New Central Library

 

 

The New Central Library began construction in 2013 and is expected to be completed in 2016. It will be Austin’s biggest new public building downtown since City Hall. The nearly 200,000-square-foot library is being developed in an area that ranks amongst the most dense areas of development in the country, the Seaholm District.

The building is designed by Lake/Flato Architects and Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott. It will be a library of the future including technologically advanced amenities such as computers focusing on electronic delivery of information. It is designed to be a community gathering spot promoting a mixture of lively and thoughtful spaces.

With more and more people moving to Austin, the demand for hotels is continuously rising. A new hotel under construction on 9th and Red River will bring a unique concept to staying downtown. Designed by Mitchell Carlson Stone Inc. in Houston, this building will be a hybrid hotel with dual brands operated jointly by the Intercontinental Hotel Group. The hotels will have separate entrances, the Holiday Inn Express entrance on Neches Street and the Hotel Indigo entrance on Red River Street. Journeyman Construction Inc. is the builder carrying out the plans.
