America’s largest JW Marriott, and Austin’s largest hotel, is set to open earlier than projected! Now 75% complete, the hotel is scheduled to open in February of 2015. With it’s superb location on Congress Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street, just 15 miles from the airport, and two blocks from the convention center, in addition to an immense amount of meeting space (more than 112,000 square feet + 42 individual breakout rooms), the digs are destined to be an ideal hub for local and business travelers.

Last month brought an exciting new announcement for the Austin community. The Independent, a condo tower to be built at the intersection of 3rd and West (formerly the Energy Control Center) was announced. The new landmark in our Austin skyline is expected to be the tallest structure in Austin. A recent Austin Buisiness Journal article details the recent history of the site: “The project is part of the complicated redevelopment of several adjacent properties that had been owned by the city — the Seaholm Power Plant, Green Water Treatment Plant, and the Austin Energy site. Hotel Zaza is officially joining the lineup of new downtown Austin hotels. The management group, Z Resorts Management LLC, is creating a a 24-story hotel, complete with two restaurants, a bar, conference rooms, and private residences on top with rooftop pool.  Z Resorts Management is a Texas-based company that already has luxury boutique hotels in Houston and Dallas. They are coming to the Austin marketplace as a veteran of niche markets.
