Michael Searls brings a deeply-rooted mastery of residential and commercial real estate to the Urbanspace Commercial team. From his initial exposure to commercial real estate while working as a maintenance technician at his family’s multi-family apartment complex, to the launch of his most recent entrepreneurial enterprise, Charter Stone Capital, Searls has been intimately involved in the comprehensive spectrum of real estate undertakings throughout his career.
With expertise in retail, office, residential and industrial market segments, Michael has purchased, developed, subdivided and renovated large-scale properties, while serving in the roles of landlord, tenant, broker, buyer and seller. His in-depth experience lends its hand to fully understanding the unique set of challenges within each real estate transaction, and possessing the strategic foresight to identify immediate solutions to pressing obstacles.
Michael firmly believes it is his role as a transaction agent to ask the right questions and uncover the full scope of a client’s requirements. With this, he can determine which properties and site characteristics will best fulfill those prerequisites and present appropriate options.
Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Searls secured a degree in Real Estate and Information Systems from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), with a specialization in real estate finance, from the University of Texas at Austin.
He is an active member of the Austin Board of Realtors (ABoR), Texas Association of Realtors (TAR), and National Association of Realtors (NAR). He recently became a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Real Estate Council of Austin (RECA), and Downtown Austin Neighborhood Association (DANA).
Searls enjoys spending his leisure time outdoors, playing soccer, wakeboarding, waterskiing, and snowboarding near his alma mater during the winter season.
Michael is a proud resident of Clarksville.
What is Austin's best kept secret?
My secret parking spots sprinkled all over town.
What do you enjoy most about Austinites?
The fact there can be a human traffic jam on the Hike & Bike trail around Lady Bird Lake at 11am on a Tuesday…priorities are clearly defined here.
What’s a perfect Austin day for you?
A perfect day would be spent on a boat on Lake Austin. I could live on the water if it was socially acceptable.
What’s your favorite hangout for locals?
I love going out and playing pick-up soccer, volleyball, or just laying around Zilker Park. Zilker is conveniently located downtown and has Barton Springs as a neighbor if you get too hot!
