Austin Marathon – Half Marathon & 5K

Runners get a chance to run through green, tree-lined city parks, cross bridges over the Colorado River, and trek through Austin’s city streets and neighborhoods at the Austin Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K, which saw more than 8,100 runners cross the finish line at the 2016 running of the race in the half-marathon alone out of more than 12,000 in all races combined.

BowiElvis Fest

BowiElvis Fest officially 10 years old. It is a party thrown by Splice Records which is happens twice a year in two different cities. MLK Celebration

March, Festival, and Food Drive. The Annual Community March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in our city. Big 12 Championship Game

It’s going to be weird, isn’t it? Watching Texas helmets and Oklahoma helmets intermingling somewhere other than the Cotton Bowl? While AT&T Stadium in Arlington, home of Saturday’s Big 12 Championship, is only about 22 miles west, the last time the Sooners and Longhorns took each other on in a city other than Dallas was 95 years ago, in 1923. (Texas won, 26-14, in Austin.)

Trail of Lights

The AUSTIN TRAIL OF LIGHTS is Austin’s largest holiday tradition and 2nd largest event in the city. Run by the Trail of Lights Foundation, the annual event in Zilker Park celebrates the unique spirit and people that make Austin the place we love to call home. The Austin Trail of Lights is a community event that invites 400,000 people every year to come celebrate the holidays in the heart of Austin, Texas during the month of December. The event showcases everything that we love about Austin—from music and food to creativity and family fun. Thanks to the Trail of Lights Foundation, we are able to keep it free for at least ½ of the nights to make sure that anyone who wants to be part of the experience has a way to do so.

18th A Christmas Affair

The Junior League of Austin’s 43rd annual A Christmas Affair, Joyeux Noël, will be held November 14-18 at Palmer Events Center. This year’s four-day holiday market is a vintage celebration of the season with a French flair. The Junior League of Austin uses the funds raised at A Christmas Affair to provide essential funding and volunteer hours to programs such as Coats for Kids, FIT-Food In Tummies and over 30 local community non-profits. This year A Christmas Affair will feature more than 200 merchants from across the country and The Junior League of Austin expects more than 25,000 shoppers to attend. Behind the scenes, a volunteer force of 1,300 League members staff the event, making every detail perfect for the guests. The holiday market opens to the public on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 12 p.m., following a preview event on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

 

 


 

ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot

This year marks the 28th anniversary of the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, 2018. The largest five-mile run in Texas and one of the largest Turkey Trots in the nation with nearly 20,000 participants, ThunderCloud’s Trot is a cherished Thanksgiving Day tradition in Austin. ThunderCloud has raised nearly $3.5 million for Caritas of Austin through the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot. We donate 100 percent of the proceeds of the event to Caritas of Austin, a nonprofit organization that provides housing, employment, education, and food services to more than 20,000 homeless, working poor, and documented refugees in Travis County. Sign up with your family and friends this year to be part of this fun and healthy family tradition, and to help support our community.

Chuy’s Christmas Parade

Starts at the State Capitol at 11th and Congress, moving south on Congress all the way to Cesar Chavez, ending just north of the bridge. Click here for a parade map. Benefiting Operation Blue Santa so Bring New, Unwrapped Toys to Donate! At a designated time during the Parade Procession, all units will stop to collect the toys. Santa’s Helpers will line the parade route and help spectators give their toy. All toys will be distributed by the Operation Blue Santa Program to another child just in time for the holidays. Giant inflatable balloons, festive holiday floats, famous children’s characters, spectacular marching bands, cool classic cars and Santa!

 

 

 

 


 

Ice Skating on the Roof of Whole Foods

A must-do for locals and visitors alike, Ice Skating on the Plaza at our Flagship store (located in Downtown) has become one of Austin’s most anticipated events of the holiday season! Zilker Tree Lighting

Austin’s annual Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting kicks off the season of festivities in Zilker Park the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and its complementary and open to anyone to enjoy! Now in it’s 52nd year, the Zilker Holiday Tree is the largest man-made holiday tree standing 155 feet tall, composed of over 3,000 lights and built upon one of Austin’s 17 historic moontowers. Access to the Zilker Tree is totally independent from Austin Trail of Lights admission, but we encourage you to come down to Zilker Park and enjoy both! Food vendors and other merchants will operate at the tree throughout the month of December. The Zilker Holiday Tree will be on display each night from 6:00 p.m. to midnight until the end of the year.

Austin City Limits Music Festival

One of the country’s largest celebrations of music, this six-day festival brings the magic of the famed public TV series Austin City Limits outside the studio and into Austin’s most beloved park with more than 140 musical acts on eight stages over two weekends. This year’s headliners include Paul McCartney, Odesza, Metallica, Travis Scott, Justice, and Arctic Monkeys.

 

 

 


 

UT vs Oklahoma Sooners

More than 100,000 people travel to the State Fair for the AT&T Red River Showdown game between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners. The game, played in Cotton Bowl Stadium since 1929, is an iconic staple of the State Fair.

Game tickets are purchased through each university’s athletic office. A ticket to the 2018 Red River Showdown includes admission to the State Fair of Texas on game day – Saturday, October 6, 2018.

 

 


 

Banger’s Oktoberfest

Enjoy German influenced food, beer, and live music followed by Banger’s Big Brass Band Brunch on Sunday, October 21st. They will be serving bierwurst, spaetzle, schnitzel, weisswurst, and German potato cakes. Banger’s version of Oktoberfest games take place daily, open to the public on a first come first-serve basis. Winners of each game will receive a “trophy”, t-shirt, and “Skip the Line” brunch voucher.

This is one of the biggest Oktoberfest celebrations in town, spanning three days (and nights). Eat, drink, dance and play to your heart’s desire at this all-out party on Rainey Street.

 

 


 

FORMULA 1 United States Grand Prix

The pinnacle of motorsports is returning to Texas for a three-day celebration of speed and sound! In the midst of a competitive and unpredictable season, the FORMULA 1 PIRELLI 2018 United States Grand Prix arrives at COTA this October with major championship implications. International drivers will be in Austin this October to compete in the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas track. This event promises three days of racing, camping, live music events and more – including headlining performances by Bruno Mars and Britney Spears for ticket holders.

 

 


 

LIVESTRONG Challenge

Join riders from around the country for the 2018 LIVESTRONG Challenge on October 21st ,2018! Chose from our 20, 45, 65, or 100-mile bike routes through beautiful Texas hill country. Austin Margarita Festival

Hosted by the Mexic-Arte Museum, Viva La Vida is Austin’s largest and longest-running Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival, and one of the few in the country with a parade.The festival features a Grand Procession, hands-on art activities and artist demos, and a celebration with traditional foods, local artist and retail booths, a low-rider exhibition, live music and performances throughout the day.

The Pecan Street Association was founded to preserve the Sixth Street Historic District. In 1977 when the downtown area was scarcely populated with abandoned buildings, this organization was instrumental in reclaiming the space and beginning renovations. All proceeds from the festival are used for the Historic District’s beautification, education and promotional activities, as well as for supporting the community through financial contributions given to charities that serve the Austin region.

Cine Las Americas International Film Festival

This May marks the 21st annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival that will be presented throughout the capital city at three primary partnership venues. By educating, entertaining and challenging the diverse Central Texas community through film, media and the arts, Cine Las Americas strives to promote cross-cultural understanding and growth.
Cine Las Americas is a multicultural, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas that offers theatrical screenings of films made by and/or about Latinos or Indigenous peoples of the Americas. With the mission of further enhancing a truly Pan-American cinematic experience, the organization also includes productions from Spain and Portugal.
The festival will feature narratives, documentaries, short films and videos, plus experimental, animation and music video selections. With noncompetitive and competitive sections, the event showcases these contemporary films and videos from Latin America; including North, Central, South America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula.

The Sunshine Run & Fundraiser

The Sunshine 5K & 10K Run is presented by the Young Men’s Business League of Austin. The downtown Austin race is family-friendly and perfect for runners and walkers of all experience levels.
All proceeds and funds benefit the Austin Sunshine Camps. This organization benefits the low-income youth of Central Texas by offering them a summer camp experience at no cost to their families. By placing an emphasis on the importance of childhood experiences and life-long lessons that help mold children into who they will later become, this organization partners with the Sunshine Run to help make positive life-changing experiences possible for these children.
With every $500 raised, one child will be sent to the 5-night summer camp. The Austin Sunshine camps goal is to raise $400K. Even if you’re not a runner, the organization is appreciative of all donations helping them to reach their goal.

The West Austin Studio Tour is an annual, free, self-guided art event spanning over two weekends. The tour, also known as WEST and presented by Big Medium, provides opportunities for the public to meet artists and artisans of Austin in their creative spaces.
WEST is a program of Big Medium, a non-profit organization that works to foster the arts and facilitate an inclusive cultural dialogue between artists and their communities. Throughout the year, Big Medium provides studio space to artists at Canopy and Bolm Studios, and also utilizes their Sponsored Projects program to umbrella several artists and creative organizations. The organization is dedicated to championing and cultivating artists and the contemporary arts throughout Austin and the rest of Texas.

With finds ranging from 78’s of the 1930’s to compact discs and 8-track tapes, the Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the US. Featuring over 300 different dealers from the US and Europe spread out over 50,000 square feet, attendees can discover over a million 78’s, 45’s, LPs, CDs, cassettes, posters, collectibles, 8-tracks and other music related memorabilia at the weekend-long event.
The show has grown to be so big that tables are provided for customers wishing to post announcements for specific items they’re interested in that other attendees may find on their own search. Since 1981, Austin Record Convention has become known for uniting collectors and dealers, in the spring and fall seasons, from around the world to enjoy a weekend of festivities here in the “Live Music Capitol of the World.”

Since 1998, the Young Women’s Alliance and the Young Men’s Business League have partnered annually to host a series of culminating events for the Austin 40 Under 40 Awards. The gala portion is a black-tie event held to honor and celebrate emerging professionals and their mentors in the Austin area, and, more importantly, raise money for the two philanthropic beneficiaries. The past 6 consecutive years have held sold out events.

The Color Run is the world’s first “Color 5K” and “Color Dash,” where participants, or “Color Runners,” are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. After Color Runners complete the race, the fun continues with an unforgettable Finish Festival that features a larger than life party equipped with music, dancing and massive color throws creating millions of vivid color combinations.
This un-timed event contrasts with the traditional 5K race by taking an approach that focuses less on a 10-minute mile and more on having the time of your life. Since 2011, The Color Run’s mission has been to bring people together and make the world a happier, healthier place.
Now, the event is the largest series in the world, having been experienced by over 6 million runners worldwide in 35+ countries, while also continuing to be the leader of the fun-running space. Lone Star Jam
The Lone Star Jam Grounds at Rodeo Austin

The Lone Star Jam is a two day Memorial Weekend concert series presented by Young Texans Against Cancer and is held at the Rodeo Austin Grounds. Since 2008, the event’s two stages and 20 bands have made a reputation for itself. This year’s lineup includes artists such as Gary Allen, Randy Rogers Band, Reckless Kelly, Read Southhall Band, Casey Donahew, Flatland Cavalry, Parker McCollum, Kyle Park and many more. There will also be multiple vendors selling memorabilia, as well as a food trucks court selling some all-time favorites of Austin’s foodies.
Tickets can be purchased online for a one- or two-day pass with a VIP option that offers early entrance to the event, meet and greet sessions with the artists, plus more. Come out for a weekend of good music, food and fun, all while fighting the fight against cancer.

 

 

 

 


 

Life Time Tri CapTex

The Life Time Tri CapTex is a triathlon race featuring a course that takes athletes along a journey through the stunning roads of the Texas Capitol. Presented by Lifetime Fitness and partnered with multiple charities and sponsors, the athletes compete in a variety of divisions and categories as they experience and sight-see the sunny city of Austin.
Along with the goal of making the sport of triathlon friendly for new athletes and an enhanced experience for season veterans, the Life Time Tri CapTex ultimately provides participants the opportunity to race for a cause. Athletes participating are encouraged to race with a charitable organization, and as a result thousands of dollars are raised each year. These participants can choose from an array of local, national and international charities that are supported by and collaborate with Lifetime. This year’s featured partners are Save The Children and the Organization for Autism Research.

This year marks the 25th annual Unplugged, presented by KGSR, that will feature performances from Flatland Cavalry, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Darden Smith, Dale Watson and many more.
Since 1993, KGSR Radio and the Shady Grove Restaurant have become a well-known duo for presenting some of Texas’ most talented, accomplished and up-and-coming musicians. The Lonestar Rod & Kustom Round Up

This year, the 17th annual Lonestar Round Up will be held on the rolling grounds of the Travis County Expo Center. Each year, vintage hot rods and custom cars drive to Austin from across the country to attend this outdoor car show and live music festival.
In 2002, the Round Up was created to recognize the people who build and drive hot rods and custom cars, as well as those who can’t get enough of the music, art, history and creativity that’s inspired by and created around car shows. The event features a giant swap meet, multiple vendors, cruise nights, the best in live music, open house parties and many BBQs. Be sure to bring out the whole family this hot rod season to come celebrate the art and enjoy a home-grown, Texas-sized experience!

 

 


 

HONK! TX Festival

HONK! TX is a nonprofit, community-driven festival that features street and brass bands from around the country. This free event is known for dissolving the barrier between audiences and performers by transforming Austin’s everyday, public locations into mobile stages.
This year marks the 8th annual Festival; HONK! TX was born in 2011 and inspired by the original HONK! Fest in Somerville, Massachusetts. These acoustic, mobile festivals were created from an idea to celebrate the growing nationwide community of activist marching bands, as well as the desire to create a community-rooted union of art, activism and music for the public to enjoy. Thanks to this vision of a local band, the experiential movement can now be attended around the world!
The festival includes genres of New Orleans second-line brass, Brazilian, Punk, Hip Hop, West African, European Kelzmer & Balkan, plus many more! All performances are free to attend and open to the public. Come out for a unique celebration of music and community that was developed on the basis of collaboration and creative expression.

 

 


 

Tailwaggers presented by Austin Pets Alive!

Every spring Austin Pets Alive! hosts Tailwaggers. This non-gala event raises funds for shelter pets that help to keep Austin the “Largest No Kill City in the United States.” The event consists of a casual cocktail party that will be held at one of Austin’s newest venues, 7Co. The venue will feature elegant lounge areas and seating throughout its indoor counterparts, as well as its outdoor lawn and terrace area.
Tailwaggers earned its name after film-legend Bette Davis’ annual soiree, during the 1930’s and 40’s, that was used to raise funds for the Los Angeles area’s shelter pets. In the Austin area, Austin’s Pets Alive! (APA!) hosts a similar event.
APA! is dedicated to providing resources, education and programs that are necessary for eliminating the killing of companion animals. Since 2008, APA! has saved more than 50,000 dogs and cats from being killed at Central Texas shelters. The animals in this program are supplied with food, shelter, veterinary care, obedience training and a matching system that will introduce them to their forever family.

Austin’s beloved charity event, “Mack, Jack & McConaughey” (MJ&M) is the joint fundraising effort of Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, ACM Award-winning recording artist Jack Ingram, and ESPN analyst and Texas coaching legend Mack Brown.
MJ&M was born in 2013 and has raised nearly $7.5 million dollars for charitable youth organizations that strive to empower kids within the community, such as CureDuchenne, Dell Children’s Medical Center, HeartGift, and The Rise School of Austin.
The non-profit two-day event will kick off with a gala and concert hosted by ACL Live at the Moody Theater. Attendees can expect multiple stage appearances by Mack, Jack & McConaughey, as well as a live, silent auction followed by a headlining concert. The second day of MJ&M includes 2 events: a golf tournament hosted at Spanish Oaks Golf Club, featuring celebrities and talent from across the country, and a fashion show held at the JW Marriott.

 

 


 

The Longhorn Run

The Longhorn Run has become a University tradition known for uniting students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Austin community. The race offers 5K and 10K courses that go through the UT campus and its surrounding areas. On race day, participants get to experience the many UT traditions that are spread out along the course. Then, after finishing the race, a post-race celebration will be held at the steps of the UT Tower.
Each spring semester the Longhorn Run is produced through the combined efforts of the Longhorn Run student committee, The University of Texas at Austin Recreational Sports and Student Government organizations. All proceeds from the race benefit the UT Student Government and Recreational Sports Excellence Funds.

This Spring, the 68th Art City Austin is returning and transforming the Palmer Events Center into an al fresco art block party. Throughout the weekend of the event, the Fine Arts festival will feature large-scale installations for viewing, art activations and performances. Additionally, a preview party will be held on Friday evening with complimentary food and drinks, performances, music, opportunities to participate in the People’s Choice Awards and a reception to welcome Art Alliance Austin’s new executive director. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, the festival grounds will host a selection of local food trucks, drinks and family-friendly activities.

Cap 2K Swim

Cap 2K is the only “downhill swimming race in Texas.” It is an open water 2000+ meter race and pledge swim held on a straightaway course on Lady Bird Lake stretching from Red Bud Isle toward the center of Austin. On top of enjoying a beautiful swim and the 10th Annual Open Water Swimming High School Championships, the event will also feature live music and a post-race picnic.
American Swimming Association hosts this nationally and locally ranked swim, and all proceeds go toward fighting prostate cancer and helping the less fortunate learn to swim.
